However, the announced 5.9% increase does not mean every shipment will cost exactly 5.9% more. Actual increases vary by service level, package weight, shipping zone, and the surcharges applied to each shipment. For example, a 1-pound Zone 2 FedEx Ground package increases from $11.99 in 2026 to $12.70 in 2027, an increase of 5.92%. Other FedEx services can increase by considerably more or less than the published 5.9% average.
In addition to higher transportation rates, FedEx is also increasing many of its accessorial and surcharge fees. FedEx’s 5.9% Increase Isn’t Really 5.9%
FedEx Shipping Changes to Minimum Net Charges
As a result, the FedEx Ground and Home Delivery minimum net charge will increase. The 2027 FedEx rate for the minimum net charge will increase from $11.99 to $12.70, a 5.62% increase. First, remember that both carriers implement a minimum net charge for ALL packages. This is the lowest amount a shipper will pay to send any package, aside from the 2027 FedEx Surcharge Increases.
2027 FedEx Rate Increase Changes
- There will be changes to the assessment criteria for Additional Handling Surcharge — Dimension and Oversize Charge.
- This change will add a cubic volume criterion to the Additional Handling Surcharge — Dimension, and both a cubic volume and a weight criterion to the Oversize Charge, in addition to the existing criteria.
- Additional Handling Surcharge — Dimension will apply to any package with a cubic volume greater than 10,368 cubic inches.
- Oversize Charge will apply to any package with a cubic volume greater than 17,280 cubic inches.
- Cubic volume = length x width x height
- Oversize Charge will apply to any package that has an actual weight greater than 110 lbs.
