If you had visited the Refund Retriever booth at WooConf or Channel Advisor’s Catalyst this past year you had the chance to play a frustrating hook and ring game. It’s a fun little game we brought to provide some entertainment and we had a huge request from people to have their own game. So we purchased 4 cases of the game and decided to ship them to a few lucky companies.
We deal with FedEx and UPS all day, every day. But we never actually ship anything out, so we decided to compare the cost to send these games around the country. What would be cheaper? USPS, FedEx, or UPS?
We went to the post office and got a few priority mail tyvek envelopes. For UPS and FedEx we just attached a label to the outside of the box. Here are the results:
When it was all said and done we decided to use USPS. They provide free shipping supplies for ground packages, was cheaper, and will arrive to our clients faster. Now these rates are all without any discounts or incentives of course because we are not regular shippers. We do not have an on time or it’s free guarantee with USPS like we would had we used FedEx or UPS. FedEx Ground and UPS Ground both have the delivery guarantee. If the package is not delivered by the end of the guaranteed delivery day, I would get a full refund of the shipping costs.
If you are a larger volume shipper, FedEx and UPS would have been the way to ship.
