FedEx & UPS: Money-Back Guarantee Exceptions You Need To Know

By Last updated on: October 16, 2023

Often, angry customers will demand a refund for shipping charges because their delivery was made past the guaranteed delivery date. It is very important to keep a customer happy but equally important to know under what circumstances FedEx or UPS will NOT issue a refund for late delivery. FedEx and UPS both have a money-back guarantee on all ground and express services. Here is a list of common reasons we see the carrier not issue a refund of transportation charges on deliveries made past the guarantee.

FedEx Ground money-back guarantee policy does not apply to:

  • On-time deliveries (of course)

  • Events beyond the control of FedEx include: riots, strikes, war, adverse weather conditions, disruptions in air or ground transportation networks, etc

  • Undeliverable or returned shipments

  • Shipments requested to be redirected to Hold at Location

  • FedEx Ground call tag service shipments

  • Shipment with FedEx Delivery signature options

  • A charge for additional handling

  • Holiday Blackout dates

FedEx Express money-back guarantee policy does not apply to:

  • On-time deliveries (of course)

  • Shipments to P.O. box addresses acceptable for delivery

  • Shipments for which the recipient requested to modify the delivery

  • Undeliverable or returned shipments

  • Rerouted shipments

  • Shipment with dangerous goods or dry ice

  • Address corrections

  • Refusal of an eligible person to accept delivery or sign

The UPS money-back service guarantee does not apply to:

  • UPS 2nd Day Air A.M. Packages for Residential deliveries

  • UPS Ground Returns Service Packages

  • Packages subject to a Large Package Surcharge

  • Additional Handling Fees

  • Packages that exceed the maximum size or weight limits

  • Call Tag shipments

  • Shipments subject to a UPS Delivery Intercept request, Delivery Change Request, or a UPS My Choice request.

  • Packages delayed due to causes beyond UPS’s control

  • Disruptions in national or local air or ground transportation networks

  • Adverse weather conditions.

  • UPS Air Services and UPS 3-Day Select Shipments of Hazardous Materials or Dangerous Goods Shipments

  • All international Hazardous Materials or Dangerous Goods Shipments except UPS Standard Shipments.

  • Holiday Blackout dates
